I'm David. During the day I work in tech. I go out and visit bookstores on the weekends.

Me: Their songs will make you feel nostalgic for things you don't remember.
Her: *stares*
Me: What? Doesn't everyone feel that way every once in a while?
Her: No.

Known Unknowns

There is pleasure
in knowing
but there is also
pleasure in knowing
you do not know.
Little gaps in the
pavement, holes
dug in the dirt,
or what your
neighbor thinks
when she sees you
through the window
dancing wildly
alone.

The idea of his body being out of his control aroused him and scared him all at once. He’d never really bought into Cartesian dualism, had considered the body and the mind as one thing when he thought about it at all, so having muscles flex and spasm without conscious thought was new and exciting and challenging all at once, at least at first, when it didn’t interfere with things. It was just a clever way of discovering new things about himself, watching how his body/mind responded to inputs. His hand twitched when he thought about television, but not if the subject was old sitcoms. His knee spasmed when he thought about the first time he kissed Rachel. His left shoulder would roll when someone he was fond of offered him alcohol.

Over time, the inability to fully control his movements would lose its novelty and its delight. But for those first few months, he was in a state of perpetual wonder.
